BMW ALPINA B10 Bi TURBO
The BMW ALPINA B10 Bi TURBO
Still the ultimate BMW, easily the fastest of all time including the latest M5. PaulFrere, Road Track Race Tester said in Sept 1991 "For me this is the car - the best 4 door in the world." The performance is absolutely shattering, the only other saloon capable of matching it being the Lotus Carlton. 0-100 is achieved in 11+ seconds with a top speed of over 300kph (187mph) which MCP Motorsport achieved on the autobahn between Lubeck and Hamburg on a crisp November day in 1998.

The basis of the BMW Alpina B10 BiTurbo is the BMW 535i - undisputedly one of the best cars in its class; it combines perfectly with Alpina's vast experience of producing powerful turbo charged engines.

The BMW B10 BiTurbo offers the following; Twin Garrett T25 turbo chargers arranged in parallel practically removing all turbo lag, boost pressure is being built up almost instantaneously. The Bosche electronic boost pressure control eliminates the overcharging characteristic associated with earlier mechanical / pneumatic systems. The torque, therefore power delivery produced is exceptionally smooth. The six cylinder in-line BiTurbo engine with its perfect mass balance, smooth running and almost unlimited performance provides the opportunity to produce a remarkably refined automobile, vastly superior to any V8 engine and at least as good as any V12.

The standard ASC (Automatic Stability Control) prevents instability caused by excessive torque at the rear axle on poor road surfaces or in bad weather. (This could be turned off if the driver wishes to experience wheel spin....!)

The interior of the B10 BiTurbo is a mix of sport and luxury. Models are equipped with the standard cloth or leather seats. The blue and green stripes that are on the seats and the door linings are the colour of Alpina. All Alpina cars have - as BMW M models- red needles for the dials. The steering wheel is originally made by MOMO but is hand stitched in finest leather by Alpina. The BMW Alpina B10 BiTurbo is endowed with excellent aerodynamics. Despite the wide wheel / tyre combination, the cd-value remains at 0.32. The lift at front and rear axles is minimal due to the discreet but effective front spoiler and rear wing. A consequence of the car's high mechanical and aerodynamic efficiency is somewhat academic top speed of more than 300km/ 187mph). This is exceptional for a vehicle weighing 1695kg. Under all conditions, the car is controlled by Lucas-Girling four pot fixed caliper brakes, huge 332 mm ventilated front brake discs and of course an ABS system. While driving in conditions of low ambient temperatures an engine torque of 550 Nm is achieved. The torque is transmitted from the engine via a totally new 5-speed manual developed by Gretag especially for this car. Beautiful features like polished wood and silver plated dash board plaque match practical equipment such as air conditioning and a 110 litre fuel tank. The BMW Alpina B10 BiTurbo is not merely a means of transport. It will make the owner feel proud and confident that his investment has provided him with a car more satisfying and unique than any other he has owned before.
