TechArt Automobildesign's new supercharged CT3, based on the Porsche 993k was revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With more power than the factory's latest Turbo model the TechArt version is likely to redefine Porsche performance.

The heart of the TechArt CT3 is the new Turmat supercharger technology as used on the Cetoni BMW M2 featured in the July issue of Performance & Style International. Instead of running at the same or slightly higher speeds than the engine the Turmat supercharger is geared to operate at much higher speeds. Although there is some power loss the overall gain from the higher boost pressures means very high power outputs.

In the case of the Porsche 993 engine the Turmat system of supercharger technology and changes to the engine management system increase power output to 345 kW (462 bhp) at 6000 rpm. Torque grows to 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) at 5500 rpm. The 100 kph sprint is achieved in 4.2 sec and top speed is up to 313 kph (195 mph) depending on the transmission ratio.

The TechArt CT3 features many styling enhancements. The body is upgraded with a front skirt with large air scoops and a large rear wing which also give space for the intercooler. A brake cooling system replaces the standard auxiliary lights. Side skirts and the air-intakes on the rear fenders complete the TechArt design package for the Porsche 993. Fitting the TUV approved carbon-Kevlar doors reduces the car's weight by 30 kg.

TechArt Performance light-alloy wheels are available as an option - 8 x 18 in at the front, 9.5 x 18 in at the rear. Alternatively, customers can choose the modular TechArt Champion rims. These come in sizes up to size 9 x 18 in at the front and 11 x 18 in at the rear and be wrapped with Bridgestone tyres up to 285 mm wide. The special TechArt sports suspension lowers the car by 40 mm. The new lightweight interior includes body-contoured Recaro sports seats in two-colour upholstery, special door panels and carbon panels for the dashboard.

There is a tailor-made console for the car-phone available in a wide range of contrasting colours.

Hi-fi systems comprising Sony components and TechArt speakers are mounted in specially designed interior consoles.

The TechArt CT3 is available as a complete car and costs from 189,000 DM (around £84,600). Alternatively, any current Porsche 911 Carrera can be used as a basis for the engine conversion (costing 43,7000 DM or £19,570) and the body styling.

RS
TechArt was one of the companies in the hall exclusive to members of VDAT. Despite the extremely bright yellow colour of this RS show vehicle, they excel in producing subtle conversions for the complete Porsche range. This vehicle was designed to appeal to RS owners who are looking for a little more comfort from their racing special. The interior is treated to leather-upholstered Recaro racing seats with carbon-Kevlar panels for both the door and dash. Externally the doors, hoods and fenders are replaced with lightweight carbon Kevlar units and a front lip spoiler reduces lift. An adjustable rear spoiler holds down the opposite end.
