BMW HARTGE M3 E30-H35-24
The BMW HARTGE M3 E30-H35-24
Based on the M3 and equipped with the 24-valve 3.5 litre engine from the M6, the Hartge H35-24 is a real street rod and from the moment you turn the key in the ignition you know that some serious performance is about to be delivered.

The 93.4mm bore and 84mm stroke engine, produces 330bhp at 6800rpm with 262lb/ft of torque available at 4500rpm. Again the engine has received the attention of the Hartge engineers with camshaft reprofiling and modifications to the Bosch Motronic injection system. Compression ratio is 10.7:1 Modifications include the company's own wild camshafts with longer lift and duration. The cylinder head is gasflowed with modified combustion chambers. It uses a thermo-static viscous drive cooling fan, seven bearing forged crankshaft with 12 balance weights and vibration damper.

Bilstein sports suspension is again utilised on this car, lowering the already lowered M3 by a further Getrag 5-speed sports transmission with dog leg first gear is the standard item and well able to cope with the extra power. The modified clutch feels heavy under foot and when you release it, the car squats down and launches itself witha surprising lack of drama thanks to the 40% limited slip differencial. Like the H35, final drive ratio is 2.93:1.

25mm. Brakes have been beefed up by the addition of 301mm ventilated discs at the front mated to the ABS system.

Putting the power on the tarmac are Hartge's 17" racing alloys, 7.5 at the front and 8.5 at the rear. These are shod with 235/45 Pirelli P700s forward and 265/40 P700s aft.

The H34-24 burbles away and on tickover it feels juddery and accompanied by a boomy exhaust note, although revs do remain constant. Hit the go button and the exhaust takes on a more purposeful growl, and the power really bites as you snatch your way through the box.

The 0-60mph sprint is achieved in a neck jarring 5.76 seconds according to our Vericom computer, and that's spot on according to Hartge, while treble figures came up in under 15 seconds. Top speed, although not recorded is claimed at 170mph.

Power is still building from this car as the needle goes past the 6000rpm mark and the torque is exceptional. You could drive this all day in third gear, it picks up very low down and will catapult the car to 100mph.

Equipment included with this car includes front and rear aluminium strut braces, front spoke leather steering and a monoarm windscreen wiper.

Price of the H35-24 in the UK is 48.000 through Birds of Amersham and it is available in right hand drive from Birds cut additional cost. Conversion of an existing M3 will cost £24.601.
