The fact that the steering wheel's on the wrong side, says Martin, rarely deters buyers, but he poses a simple question to those who remain undecided: "Imagine a suitcase on the passenger seat next to you stuffed with five or ten thousand pounds. Which would you take - the cash and a better condition car or a more expensive RHD model? Ultimately it's a rational, common-sense decision." Martin told us demand for 993s is strong and good LHD C2s sell for around £24,000, with Turbo 4s making £32k-£37k. GT3 RSs are also a popular LHD choice.
The only caveat when buying an imported Porsche already in the UK, warns Martin, is avoiding cars that might have been clocked. "There's a lot of rubbish around at the moment - cars where the history and Fahrzeug Brief have been 'lost* to disguise the true mileage." Thankfully, all of MCP Motorsport's cars are carefully checked and vetted before Martin buys them.
Of course the other advantage of buying a left-hooker is that there's a much bigger market place in which to sell the car when you've finished with it.
And with the growth of second homes abroad, says Martin, the demand can only get bigger. Win-win, in other words.
